Top 40 Albums of the Decade... (the definitive list, of course)

Everybody is doing it. But nobody is doing it this good... Actually, my list is clearly lacking in some areas. Where is Jay-Z? Where is Wilco? Where is Fall Out B- well maybe not them, but the point is- I can't list it if I haven't listened to it enough. Indeed, this current list doesn't make me think I listen to too much music, it is only evidence that I don't listen to enough of it. There's too much good stuff out there. So you just let me know where I have personally failed you or insulted you, either with albums that are on this list or ones that you think were left out.

1. In Rainbows- Radiohead
(this includes disc 2, which is as equally phenomenal as the first)

2. Catch For Us the Foxes- mewithoutYou

3. Sound of Silver- LCD Soundsystem

4. Merriweather Post Pavilion-
Animal Collective

5. Funeral- Arcade Fire

6. Illinois- Sufjan Stevens

7. Kid A- Radiohead

8. Turn On the Bright Lights- Interpol

9. Elephant- The White Stripes

10. You Forgot It In People- Broken Social Scene

11. Dear Science- TV on the Radio

12. Yoshimi Battles Pink Robots- The Flaming Lips

13. Songs For the Deaf- Queens of the Stone Age

14. Feed the Animals- Girl Talk

15. And The Glass Handed Kites- Mew

(Easily the worst album artwork of the decade. One of the band members must have discovered Photoshop and thought this was awesome.)

16. Brother, Sister- mewithoutYou

17. Saturdays=Youth- M83

18. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix- Phoenix

19. For Emma, Forever Ago- Bon Iver

20. Vampire Weekend- Vampire Weekend

21. Silent Shout- The Knife

22. Stankonia- OutKast

23. Sea Change- Beck

24. Amnesiac- Radiohead

(Sorry this is lower than you would have hoped for, Colton.)

25. Kala- M.I.A.

26. Takk- Sigur Ros

27. From Here We Go Sublime- The Field

28. Because of the Times- Kings of Leon

(This album is not the band selling out. Only By the Night was the band selling out.)

29. Fleet Foxes- Fleet Foxes

30. De-Loused in the Comatorium- The Mars Volta

31. You are Free- Cat Power

32. Strawberry Jam- Animal Collective

33. Z- My Morning Jacket

34. All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone- Explosions in the Sky

35. Veckatimest- Grizzly Bear

36. Control- Pedro the Lion

37. Neon Bible- Arcade Fire

38. - Justice

39. Return to Cookie Mountain- TV on the Radio

40. Futures- Jimmy Eat World

So there you have it...

Was it a better decade than the 90s? I think overall, the albums are better. But as far as singles go? Not a chance.
